Pull Us Up 01:51
Pull Us Up All the ways in which we’re winding down Seems like I should take a look around Brush the cobwebs from my face Crawling through this dirty basement We can’t fall much farther I could use some water Or maybe something stronger Shoveling the chemicals inside Somehow you’re never satisfied Wish an antidote would come There’s this hole inside you somewhere Waiting to be plugged Still I loathe these drugs Throbbing through your blood Pull us up from above I’m sure we’ve had enough
2.
Finding the Pieces I’m spilling all your secrets Breaking down these walls It happens when I’m sleeping There’s no control at all You fracture my defenses Immersion therapy It’s never your intention To sink these hooks in me Bad coffee bad ideas We’re hoping for a reason I’m ready to concede Though I can’t find the pieces I’m walking through the courtyard It’s only make believe Plotting my departure A sudden soft retreat Stolen pages from the archive Illuminating everything I feel naked in this harsh light And my skin pale and thin Bad coffee bad ideas We’re hoping for a reason I’m ready to concede Though I can’t find the pieces Take a walk through the cornfield As the Autumn light retreats There’s a feeling you remember From when you were twenty three Take a bath with the lights off Feel the way the world recedes And the water growing colder Somehow feel relieved
3.
Playing Pretend Freezing days feeling brave Sweeping all the leaves in piles Breathless air unprepared Waiting till the wind subsides Harbor lights zebra stripes Sometimes I can walk the line Everyone feeling strung Working at the knots entwined Rolling in the late October leaves Sometimes all I see is make believe Knowing where you’re going to my friend Sometimes I prefer playing pretend Floating breath dispossessed Moving through the air a ghost Furnace clangs sounding strange Knowing things aren’t as you’d hoped Calendar saboteur Watching as the days dissolve You’re asleep thin and weak Feeling how the world revolves Rolling in the late October leaves Sometimes all I see is make believe Knowing where you’re going to my friend Sometimes I prefer playing pretend
4.
Translucent 01:36
Translucent I can see the core of you Your skin is clear I look right through I can see the breath you take The way your heart shakes and palpitates I can see your straining skin Translucent wrap that holds you in I watch as your muscles strain The blood moves through your veins up to your brain But still you are a mystery to me Watching through your window from the tree All your eccentricities Hold me so captivatingly

about

And now it's time for the August edition of a series of monthly eps for 2017 in which I have invited friends to take my songs and "produce" them. I recorded the songs to a click track and sent the producers the raw tracks along with chords and lyrics and gave them free range to do as they saw fit. It is as much about their vision for the song as mine in writing it. I've included stripped down demos to get a sense of the arc each song has taken.

All proceeds from this series will go to either Planned Parenthood, Southern Poverty Law Center or the SPCA. Just message me with your preference.
