Captain Edward Morrow a salty surly sailor
Who ruled like a tyrant nothing good inside him
Seven men’s been drowned in half a year

Me the lowly cook in the galley stuck
A rat down in the hole stirring stew below
Serving salty pork to aching men

As they bear his heavy hand
Worried wives on the mainland
Waiting for bad news again

Through the living gale with taut and tattered sail
Miles from fishing ground another man has drowned
The clouds finally waft and disappear

Men in hammocks sleeping the quiet is deceiving
With blood upon my apron the night has just begun
As I climb slowly from my hole

William asleep at watch I close the galley’s hatch
